** For Your Eyes Only **

i think it is inconsistent for an ethical vegetarian (those who refrain from eating meat cos they object to needless cruelty) to wear leather shoes.

to wear leather when theyre are so many other alternative types of clothing, when leather is not required for our existence, is very selfish indeed.

my only objection to vegetarians doing so is that it is analagous to eating meat when there are so many other forms of nutritious and delicious meals available, so this constitutes an inconsistency.

but i suppose the question is whether it is more objectionnable that a vegetarian should wear leather, rather than an omnivore

perhaps u could argue the veggie has earned 'points' by not killing and so 'deserves' the biker jacket etc.. but i disagree.

perhaps the meat eater is morally 'better' because they're consistent, but i dont think consistency can earn brownie points.

if u presume the meat-eater is only doing so cos they're selfish then i dont think this redeems them from also wearing leather

the veggie is guilty of inconsistency, the omnivore is guilty of being selfish and inflicting needless cruelty. that the veggie does inflict a lesser degree of cruelty in wearing leather does not really excuse their vanity.
