just to add to above,

i think that for many veggies it's a matter of where to draw the line.

some will go for animal testing in the hope that it can provide a cure for cancer, for humans.

if u grant humans a greater moral status, greater value etc then it is justifiable to use non-human animals for essential human gains...

but what classifies as essential?

if its all about balance, where do we draw the line between protecting our own 'kind' and speciesism?

alternative means of scientific research render animal testing superfluous, an unnecessary cruelty. 

but what about setting mouse traps?

or setting a cat out on them?

(an indirect mouse trap)

the mouse poses a threat to one's family's health

so perhaps this is justifiable, 

but wearing leather is not.
