(sorry i changed the subject but i was getting tired of a constant onslaught of implicit criticism so i thought id jazz it up a notch... sorry to be silly, yes, i do accept criticism)

1. very funny Rab, what a joker and yes, surprisingly enough i would sincerely object to BUPS being affiliated to one of the most attrocious corporations known...

for further reading please follow this link and lap up the wisdom of one of my idols,

2. rab, i get ur point about corporations not being accountable and not necessarily doing great things but keith's implicit point( that is, at least how i read it) is that for the rich to favour organisations, rather than relatives is merely the lesser of two evils;

a) the left tries to avoid unfair advantage, so at least according to keith's model this effect is minimised. the grandkid no longer gets a big sum which is an unfair advantage, instead the money goes to organisations.

b) we dont really need to fret about organisations getting lots of cash cos any donations would be taxed. first, this already happens, u cant really stop it, secondly, its only charities which would be exempt from paying such tax

i think the main point about IHT is that its not a way for the gov to make money but a way to eliminate, or at least diminish the influence of socio-economic background.

so again, i will ask, all those who oppose IHT, how do u feel about creating a more equal society? do u want more/ less equal access to opportunity?

3) rab, what do u mean by the term 'deserving'? (BIG ISSUE)

4) id wholeheartedly disagree with ur contention that 50% has been spent on london, masses has been spent on the reinvention, re-energisation, revitalisation (i could go on) on other major cities such as birmingham, manchester, leeds, liverpool and newcastle. indeed, when the idea of the holding the olympics was first mooted 2 years ago, a major point was that london and in particular the east end had been largely overlooked, receing minimal, if any, funding...

5) as for where we should spend, why not have that special box on the tax returns form to indicate where u would like ur funds spent. of course, there's the whole argument about higher and lower pleasures and the ignorant/ oafish proleteriat and so they wouldnt know etc etc. but by making such experiences cheaper then ppl can explore new ideas and might be converted away from eastenders... (might one make a loose reference to plato's denial of akrasia.....?)

6) keith, i really like ur points.

ok, im done

alice
