Hello Alice,

Couple of things –

1. Savings - IHT
Alice, I think that you’ve provided a false opposition. I accept that the
IHT does not have the effect of stopping any savings but reduces it. There
is still saving, but the point is that it is lower then if there was no IHT
– which I consider a social ill.

2. Social equality
income tax only pays for public services it does not sort out the problem of ppl being born fortunate. do u not think that we should try to limit the effect that factors beyond the control of the individual have upon their subject? life chances should not be determined by external forces, this is simply unfair and so we must limit them. income tax is insufficient.

as for equality in art, id definately favour state sponsorship according to interests.
so favour spending on those who need platform to their voice. i recently went to a european feminist exhibition in manchester - i thought this was a valuable way for the artists to address their identity concerns and wishes.

i also like the idea of public areas for grafitti, so that inner-city youths might have a place to express themselves artistically.( a major problem here is that it will be used to voice gang messages, but coupled with a strong educational policy i think this is an interesting avenue to explore)

i also liked the 'picture of britain' - altho not originally timed to coincide with the 7/7 bombings it provided a visual reminder of the meaning of britain, which arguably helps social cohesion within the isles by encouraging inland tourism - which is truly suffering

im not a big fan of spending on high-art for high-art's sake, take opera, for instance, which is largely unpopular yet still receives significant state funds just so that it can be propped up - i just dont see little point.

ok, im supposed to be working...
must dash
