Bumper Christmas Quiz

Hi everyone,
At the end of each Michaelmas term at school we always got given a 'fun'
christmas quiz to endure. In the spirit of those halcyon days, I enclose
the following...
BUPS has been offering advice to sixth-formers looking to study
philosophy at university, where we can. Occasionally we have received a
bit of feedback on the interview process. The following are two discussion
questions from a Cambridge interview session. I'd be interested to hear
some answers, to see if we're anywhere near as good as mere a-level
students ;-)
1. 'Jane is writing a play about two people (lets call them A and B)
waiting for a friend (lets call that character C), and getting bored.
The friend never in fact arrives. Jane tells Ella about her interesting
play. Ella says a play about boredom could never be interesting. Do you
agree with Jane or Ella? Explain why.'
2. 'Whenever I see an oblong knife I have a feeling of oblong. So I call
the knife oblong. But if the knife has a blade and I cut myself and
feel pain, why don't I call the knife pain?'
Thoughts and answers? There may be a prize...!
Rab.
