Re: On side note - Timecube: Quite a curiosity

I looked at the entry for this guy on Wikipedia, and some of the links they have there to interviews with him.  My gut instinct, bearing in mind I am no mathamatician or phyisist, is that this guy is (as you said) "insane", a complete crack-pot!

Now I'm all for weird and wonderful theories that fly in the face of all established ideas (come on, my main interest in philosophy at the moment is Heidegger for God's sake!), but when you read sentences like:

"
4 Day math transcends 1 Day God"

or

"-1 times -1 = +1 is stupid and evil"

You have to wonder whether "care in the community" is such a bright idea.  His rather disturbing views on homosexuality (and what should be done with teachers that subbornly stick to teaching "cubelessness") say far more than any of his theories do about him.  It is unfortunate, that at both of the guest lectures that Ray gave, none of the professors from the physics department showed up to call his bluff.  Fair enough, many of the students that did attend realised that they had a madman infront of them, and walked out at half-time, but there is a small group of people that appear (alarmingly) to take Ray seriously.  Surely in an age where irrationalism and ignorance is on the rise, people who actually know what they're talking about, when it comes to such subjects, should not just ignore crack-pots like Ray for fear of bringing their subject into disrepute.  They will do far more damage by staying away, and thereby letting dribble take place of serious academic theories.

Now the champion of free speech inside of me, feels that however crazy Ray may be, he should be allow to say his piece.  After all, how crazy would physicalism sound to someone brought up purely on teleology?  However, the philosopher inside me feels outraged that serious time was given over to a man who apparently believed that people could be convinced of the truth of his views by competing in a giant marbles tournament!

Fortunately, I know two people (a physicist and mathamatician, respectively) who may be able to give more definite approval to my intial gut instinct towards Ray's 'theory'.

As for the 'Wisest Human', I think that 'Dr Ray' is an insult to all those whose earned genuine PHDs and made real contributions to their respective fields.  Although having said that, there are a number of people who (if I had my way) would have their doctorates stripped from them for being total quacks.

website called TimeCube, which is a 12,000 word
essay/rant across two
pages by a certain Gene Ray
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gene_Ray),
"describing" this "timecube theory" which purports
that there are 4
simultaneous days going on every 24 hours, that time
is cubed, that
most human knowledge is wrong, etc etc etc.

The actual website: http://www.timecube.com/
An online community supporting Ray's theory:

Gene Ray is obviously insane as a vast majority of
the content of his
website relates to delusions of grandeur and the
description of the
errors the academic community makes (often referring
to a vast
conspiracy theory to keep the timecube away from
society), but the
effort put into the website makes worth a look, out
of curiosity.

What does anyone make of this?
