Yes, I think that may be true ... reading Sacks's account of Steven
Wiltshire recently, I was struck by how it might be susceptible to a
Kantian analysis - a breakdown in synthesis?
It's difficult to relate these aspects of autism to the more familiar
'mindblindness' analysis ...

People on the Autistic spectrum are often fascinated or obessive about
small details and often, as a result, find the world as a whole
completely bewildering - if you notice every small thing, identifying
whole systems would be a large task. Maybe they lack this filtering
mechanism? Perhaps our underlying ability to categorise is also
involved in this hypothesis?
