Hello everyone,
I've been following this debate with interest, as I've tried to
articulate my own views on philosophy in a couple of papers in the past,
and largely found myself stumped. Or at least temporarily happy, and
then somewhat dismayed when I realise what horrible flaws I've
overlooked in my own arguments. Or which other things I've ended up
classing as philosophy by my latest hand-wavy definition.
But I hope everyone who's been involved will come along and check out AC
Grayling's views on the matter at BUPC next month - his keynote paper is
on 'What is philosophy for?' It should be interesting to hear what he
has to say on this difficult but apparently central question, and I
think a lot of what we've been talking about here will be quite
important. Check the website for details and the latest programme, or to
register for a place.
Hope to see you there!
Rab
