I can't say anything specific to Warwick but my advice to anyone looking at
postgrad study is to go along to the department you are interested in and
have a chat with them. Email the postgrad coordinator and/or any particular
members of staff you would like to work with. Give them a couple of weeks
notice and they will almost certainly be happy to see you. If there are
particular courses you are interested in ask if you can sit in on a seminar.
I did all this last year and had quite a pleasant day at Sheffield. Some of
the folk on this list were kind enough to show me around, for which I thank
them again.
If you are a potential postgrad student most departments will be very keen
to encourage you into their clutches (apart from anything else you represent
a fair slice of filthy lucre), and if they aren't then that alone is a
reason to seriously consider whether or not you really want to spend such a
lot of time and money there.

James
