About us
The British Undergraduate Philosophy Society (BUPS) was founded early in 2005, by Robert Charleston, to respond to the lack of a communication platform linking students from different universities. The society initially was centred around the mailing lists, but its activities have since grown to include the organisation of conferences and activities, and the publishing of its own journal: the British Journal of Undergraduate Philosophy (BJUP). BUPS now has hundreds of readers and conference delegates coming from universities from across the UK, and sometimes even from abroad.
BUPS is run by a committee constituted principally of undergraduates, led by the BUPS President. The president is succeeded once they cease to be an undergraduate student, and are then shadowed for a year by an appointed vice president. BUPS is a non-profit learned society. BUPS events and services are made possible because of the generosity of donors and sponsors, and the time invested by volunteers, both on the committee and off.
