Notice of British Journal of Undergraduate Philosophy Day Conference and First Call for Papers

The British Undergraduate Philosophy Society is very happy to announce our day conference to celebrate the launch of the British Journal of Undergraduate Philosophy (ISSN 1748-9393) on Saturday 4th February at the University of Sheffield.

Our keynote speaker is Professor Robert Hopkins (University of Sheffield), aesthetics and philosophy of mind specialist, author of Picture, Image and Experience: A Philosophical Inquiry, and many journal papers.

We will be hosting and discussing a series of high-quality undergraduate papers from philosophy students across the country, chatting over lunch, and showing off the first two issues of the journal! Registration for the day will be just £5 and will be waived for those who have papers accepted for the conference.

To register, or for further information about the British Undergraduate Philosophy Society and BJUP, please visit our website - www.bups.org. Enquiries to info@bups.org

Call for Papers
-----------------------

Undergraduates at UK or Irish Universities are invited to submit papers of 2,000-2,500 words (15-20 minutes reading time). Preference will be given to papers which are:

  • carefully structured
  • argumentative rather than merely descriptive
  • clearly written

Your audience will be fellow undergraduates: expect discussion to be focused, but relaxed and friendly. Outstanding papers from the conference will be offered publication in the BJUP itself.

We are delighted to receive work in both the analytic and continental traditions.

Papers should be submitted via email to submit@bups.org and should be prepared for blind review with a separate cover sheet giving name, affiliation, contact details and paper title. The deadline for submission is Sunday January 8th 2006. Submission enquiries to info@bups.org

If you know anyone else who would be interested, please pass on the message. We look forward to seeing you there!
