The Schools Project
Notice: As the schools project develops, more resources will be posted on this page - please keep checking back.
Not at university yet? BUPS can still do something for you...
The Schools Project is set up as a resource for pre-university students interested in philosophy.
First and foremost, we can offer
information and advice about what it's like to study philosophy in the UK's
universities. If you have a question about specific philosophy departments or
courses, send us an email and we aim to
put you in touch with current students and people who have first hand experience
of the course in question.
We can come and provide talks, seminars,
skills sessions or even short conferences at your school. BUPS is
comprised of some of the most capable, enthusiastic and successful
undergraduates in the UK and we want to use this resource to reach out to local
schools. A group of current BUPS members can present a selection of papers,
'taster tutorials', and discussion groups so you can get an idea of what it's
like to be an undergraduate philosopher. So if you're wondering what philosophy
is and what studying it might entail, why not invite us in? We're happy to talk
to individual classes or larger assemblies. Moreover, we can be flexible to suit
the requirements and interests of individual schools. For further information,
please email our Schools Liaison
Officer, Edmund Hair.
We will also be running select essay competitions for pre-university students. Check back for details of upcoming competitions and details of entry.
We have some reserved places at our undergraduate conferences around the country.
We can subscribe you to our undergraduate journal BJUP where you can read top quality undergraduate papers on a wide variety of topics - a great way to see what more advanced undergraduate work is like.
...And, of course, we're always happy to talk about philosophical issues -
theoretical or practical - and can guide you towards other resources on your
interests.
